The Taturs

Okay so back into running again. I baptized myself with a 20 mile run last night. I haven't ran over 8 miles since my last marathon in 2006. It started at 8 pm and was supposed to be a 30 mile run. I probably could have gone the whole distance but at 15 I ended up running by myself and started to get discouraged. When you're running with other people you have discussion and listen to what they're saying, but when your by yourself all your doing is thinking about your body and how it feels. I took it slow though and I still feel good today..... but very tired.

The group I ran with was the best group of runners I've ever been with. There were quite a few people. One person I knew and the others I think I made good friends with. At one point I was drinking a gatorade and one of my pals I just met was like "Can I just have a small sip of that (referring to the gatorade)". I was like "Uh .... okay." Little awkward to share a drink with someone you just met. I was also eating some of the potato chips from a plastic bag and kind of shaking them out on my hand .... you know without reaching in and grabbing a handful. Well that's exactly what the person after me did. Close group :)

This was a very well planned out training run. They had about 5 point where people met us along the trail and gave us any water, gatorade, chips, pretzels, cookies, .... etc. All the people were so friendly too!!! Best run ever!!! I'm going to run with these people every change I get.

Most of the people in the group have done an Ultra before. A lot of them 100 mile plus Ultras. I'm just happy trying to tackle my 50 right now. Or rather attempt to tackle the 50.

On another note, I'm in the market for a bicycle. I think it'll be some nice cross training. There is a Trek store in Tulsa that I'm going to purchase from. Now I could go to Target or Walmart to get a bike, but I figure I'm serious about getting back to my full potential so I shouldn't cut corners. I was thinking road bike, but I'm thinking with the roads around Owasso I'm gonna be more comfortable on a mountain bike. I haven't tested yet and I'll probably do that next weekend. I did go there though and go a run down on the bikes that would be nice for a beginner such as myself.

When I purchased a mountain bike, I went in said, "I have $400. I want a mountain bike. Show me what you got." However, I advise against a mountain bike.

You'll be spending the majority of time on paved roads and you dont need the traction (or resistance) from mountain bike tires. Get an Urban or Hybrid bike and do yourself a favor. Also, I think most reputable stores have a 30 day return policy.

See this is my dilemma... I'm not sure how much "off road" stuff I want to do. Not to mention sweet wheelies and jumps! I'm not sure I just want to go riding around roads. I looked at the road bikes first and the tires were so narrow. I'm not sure. I'll just have to test a few out to get the right fit.

How am I supposed to do this sort of stuff on an urban bike. :)))

I think you'll be doing less than you think. I spent most of my time going to the lake front. Then, my bike became my transportation. You really need a bike with some gitdy-up when you're sharing lanes and dodging cars.

The only off-roading I did were a couple hills and patches of grass. Also, think of how much cleaning you'll have to do to get all the dirt and sand out of your gears with the chain lubes and oil. It's not fun.
