My new ride!!!
My bicycle finally arrived a few days ago. I picked it up on Friday at Bicycles of Tulsa. It is a 2011 Giant Revel1 mountain bike. Lots of great features.... I'm not familiar with all of them yet. I went to 4 shops in the Tulsa area and one in Owasso. Price wise the Giant gave out the most bang for the buck. I looked at Specialized and Cannondale models too. They were more expensive with the same features. When I first went to Bicycles of Tulsa they said a Large would be my size, but the 4 others I went to said I should go with a Medium.... so majority rule. I was more comfortable on a Medium too. Great service at all the shops with lots of friendly people.Mers suggested I should go with more of an urban or hybrid bike. However, I'm not going to commute with this like he did with his bike in Chicago. It's going to be my scoot around town and trail riding bike. I can't wait to go test it out on Turkey Mountain in Tulsa. I still need a helmet (full face) before I do that though. I'm all about the safety. I may get a pair of MTB specific shoes too. Today when I was riding around I slipped forward off the pedals and almost greeted the handlebars with my face..... Right at an intersection too. I tried to play it off. I'm not sure if anyone saw it or worse recorded it. I'm gonna get a little jumpseat for Say. Plus it's an okay size for Mel so she can go with me on some of my runs. Win, win, win.
Right now, I'm working on figuring out the gearing on the bike and practicing some sweet jumps and wheelies. Cause you gotta get that stuff down before you hit the trails. I've also found a few Duathalons that are Mountain bike/run races. Those look like a HOOT! I'll try and hit one of those up next year. The closest one I've seen is in Arkansas. Hopefully, I'll put up some sweet wheelie pics in the future.
GIANT!

Remember. Getting dirty is all fun and games, but then you have to clean the bike. ...or I guess you could take it to the shop and have them do it. I didn't like to think about all the cleaners and tools I had to buy. I just wanted to ride!
For some reason, I've yet to master the bunny hop on a bike. I'm pathetic.
Oh yeah. It looks sweet!
I'm looking to do a duathalon in a few weeks with a buddy of mine. It's a 3.1 mile run, 18 mile bike ride, then another 3.1 mile run. He asked me this weekend if I wanted to run with him. I'm not signed up for it. I don't know if I will sign up. Maybe just be his sort of pacer. We'll see. I've been wanted to try a duathalon so......
Sign up (or go) and see what others are riding for these types of events. I dont think they will be MT bikes.
In the next 2 weeks, I have to come to the school for 2 hours of classes. I asked the guy who takes me to work to load me his bike. I really dont want to take a $5 cab or bus each day.
Yes Mers... irealizei'dbetheonlygoofballonamountainbikeoutthere. I actually called the guy i am doing it with and he is wanting to do more of a relay thing. Me cover the running portion and him the biking. There is a mountain bike / trail run in Arkansas. I'm gonna hit that up next year. I've got to get practice changing gears and master all my tricks.
Don't ask. Tell. "Hey your loaning me your bike for a few weeks McFly"
His name is Chin, not McFly.
Chin?... Like in Double Dragon! Badass! Give him one of those sweet flying knees then.
